Relaxer Touch-up: August 14

Is it that time of the year again? I finally ended my stretch at exactly 20 weeks post relaxer. This stretch has been really rocky for me, trust me! But all of the good things happened to me at the end of my relaxer stretch. The relaxer that I’d used was the Crème of Nature Argan Oil from Morocco in Normal. Let’s just say that I was eager but very nervous of this touch up. I was very nervous because I wanted to see if I had any growth, if my hair would be different, etc. I was just really ready to do this.

[1] I based my scalp using Vaseline around the perimeter and on my scalp. I do this so that I will not get any burns on my scalp since we’re working with chemicals. I noticed that my new growth was very thick. (a) I then applied Suave Professionals Almond + Shea Butter Conditioner on my length, making sure that my hair doesn’t overprocess.

[2] I added the activator to the relaxing crème with a few added drops of coconut oil.

[3] I know many people do the half method but my preference is to add it on my new growth at once. Some of the bloggers or videos that I’ve read and/or watched did the half method but their hair was way longer than mines. My goal is to apply and smooth at 15 minutes maximum. I officially made it with 3 minutes to spare. So, I decided to smooth. I had a lot of texture left!

TBH: My hair felt like it was burning because previously I accidently scratched my scalp. As soon as I felt the burning sensation, I ran to the sink and rinsed it out with warm water.

[4] After neutralizing with the shampoo within the kit, I applied ORS Replenishing Conditioner for 15 minutes and rinsed out with warm water. I noticed all of the texture and shine.

[5] I then applied the CON Intensive Conditioning Treatment for 3 hrs 45 min. I kept it in for so long because my father wanted me to go to the store since I’m leaving very soon. I’m going back to school the first week of September. When I got home, I noticed my hair and it really caused me to always stick to this relaxer because my hair has never been shinier than ever!! When I took off the shower cap, I stared into the mirror and literally asked, “Is this my hair?”

When I previously used this relaxer back in April, my hair has never felt that way before. Remember, this was around the time when I just wanted my hair to grow and not really caring about maintaining it. Now that I restarted my hair journey, I realized that my hair made a major U-turn and now its looking better than ever.

[6] I t-shirt dried for 15 minutes and I was a big poof ball. It turned into a huge straight puff ball. LOL. I tried to rollerset my hair and didn’t really know what I was doing. I should’ve been watching more videos on it but everything went out of my head because I was really excited to try it out. Since it didn’t work, I used (a) Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Leave-in Cream; (b) sealed with coconut oil; (c) applied Aussie Hair Insurance Heat Protectant.

[7] I blow dried with warm air and let my hair breathe by tying it up for bed and waiting in the morning to flat iron.

I can tell that the overall health of my hair is improving so far.

[8] The next late afternoon, I used Fantasia IC Heat Protectant Serum to each section of my hair and proceeded to flat iron. I seriously need another flat iron! Now I can tell how healthy it is. My ends look way too dull and the roots of my hair are way shinier.

During my relaxer stretch, I’m going to continue to moisturize and seal daily and making sure that I incorporate more water in my hair.
