Wash Day: A Very Serious Night

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

I’m baaaaaaccckkkkkk! I deeply apologize for the delay on blog posts but I honestly had a lot going on in my life. I went back to school for my Bachelor’s Degree and I’ve been struggling with grades since I kept getting sick majority of the times. But with GOD on my side, I managed to get on the Dean’s List for the term. But, lets get back to this hair!

Before Thanksgiving break, I blew out my hair for low maintenance during finals week. I kept the blow out in for 2 weeks straight. And that’s when everything went to Hell. My hair was really oily, it became itchy and on some spots on my scalp there was caked dandruff. But, I kept neglecting my hair because I was really tired. One night I became fed up and ran to the kitchen sink. I did my normal routine but I started crying (lol not really) because my scalp became really sensitive. I needed protein.

After washing my hair, a few days later, I did mini twists so that I can put moisture back into my hair since it felt dry. When I came back to school, I ended up taking them out because they began to look bad and I still had dandruff.  So, I ran in my shower room with my products, tools and began washing my hair.

[1] The first thing that I did was wet my hair and massaged to scalp to lift off any dirt and dandruff that was caked on my scalp. My hair felt so good and didn’t feel weighed down after I applied warm water to my hair. [2] I grabbed Aussie Moist Shampoo because I haven’t used it in a while and I wanted something with sulfate in it so that I know that my hair and scalp is squeaky clean. My hair was in 4 sections while this step was applied.
[3] I then used Aussie Moist Conditioner immediately after shampooing my hair. [5] I then t-shirt dried my hair for a few minutes and my hair felt back to normal. My hair was curly, went back to a fro and just really felt light and fluffy. [6] I used the LOC method using: Aloe Vera Juice + Water Mix; “Shea” Butter and any conditioner. For a style, I just did twists for a twist out.
I massaged it on my scalp, put on a shower cap then proceeded to do my business in the shower. I lightly detangled my hair in the shower which was the longest process because I had so many tangles and knots in my hair that it was ridiculous! Thank GOD that I bought a hair drainer because it was going to be A LOT of hair down the drain.
[4]
So, I learned my lesson. I will NOT be blowing out my hair for a very very very long time, I’m going to try to M&S my hair on a daily basis and I’m going to make sure that I keep up with my hair.

Once again, I’m so sorry that I was gone but now I’m back and plus I’m going home next week!!!!!

Relaxer Stretch Goal Completed

I remember that I tried to do monthly goals but each month, they were thrown out of the window because I either forgot, I was busy or just sick. But here is the good news: I finally made it to my four month post relaxer goal on August 12. I never thought that I wouldn’t make it because I’m still learning my hair and trying to get it back to health.

I know it’s been over a year since I decided to take care of my hair but I had some set backs. There have been times where I didn’t moisturize and seal up to weeks or didn’t maintain my hair during the week. The worse of all, if I did moisturize and seal my hair, there would be times where I didn’t sleep with a bonnet. I know it’s very bad that I didn’t and it’s causing more damage to my hair but hey, I’m not perfect so please don’t judge me. :)

There have been some good times and bad times during this goal:
  • I suffered a lot of split ends leading to breakage. But, I ended that around graduation time where I got a major trim.
  • I did notice that my hair is getting thicker because my hair was really thin in the beginning of my hair journey and now, it’s thicker and looking healthy. Even in my pictures, there is a difference in my hair.
  • Protective styling was the worst for me! Each time I did a protective style, it would go horribly wrong. My protective style would only last for a day or two but once those days are over, I have to either co-wash it or find another style of choice.
  • During the end of my stretch, I decided to start my hair journey over which was the best decision. I was highly ignorant to healthy hair in the beginning. All I wanted was to find out which products were best for my hair, how to maintain it. All I just wanted was for my hair to grow out long.
  • I incorporated moisturizing and sealing 2x a day. Another good decision that I made because moisturizing and sealing once a day was not working for me. I began moisturizing and sealing in smaller sections and when I sprayed my hair with water and grab for the oil to seal it in, it would feel dry. Now that I moisturize and seal 2x a day, my hair stays moisturized.
  • Washing my hair bi-weekly was really good for me. In the beginning, I mainly used sulfate based shampoos. My hair use to feel really stripped until I started using a pre-poo where my hair would be clean but still soft to the touch. Usually in a week, my hair is still moisturized, soft and it doesn’t have any product build up. I also shampoo my hair bi-weekly because I incorporate co-washes and deep conditioners throughout the week to up-keep until the next week.
  • My last thing I want to mention is that I loved the fact that I’m working on incorporating moisture in my hair. Mainly all of my products are moisturizing shampoos, conditioners, deep conditioners and daily moisturizers. I’ve decided to do that because my hair doesn’t stay hydrated, it’s always drying out, etc. I do get protein conditioners but only when needed. I’ve seen and read so many things about when to determine that the hair needs protein so I’m well aware of incorporating protein in my regimen.

My next stretch will be from August 30 to December 20* (Depends on my hair). Here are my goals for this stretch:
  • Keep my hair hydrated
  • Think of protective styles that last for the month
  • Baby the crown of my head
  • Make sure that I’m properly taking care of my hair

My stretch is ending soon on August 30 so make sure that you stay close for another Relaxer touch up!

Wash Day: Protective Style Ideas?

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
This wash day was very hectic for me. My wash day began on Monday but sadly I got really sick so I had to continue on to Tuesday.

[0] Detangle ha within 4 sections. My hair was really dry so I had a lot of shedding so I thought it was time for a protein treatment.
[1] I grabbed my Ion Hard Water Shampoo and washed my hair within sections. I can admit my hair felt a bit stripped but it was still soft. I didn’t get any tangles because I stretched out my hair as I shampooed my scalp.
[2] I then proceeded to get my Profectiv Mega Growth Anti-Breakage Strengthening Deep Conditioner. I then grabbed some Grapeseed Oil and added some of it inside of a bowl. I warmed it up in the microwave for 15 seconds then applied it to my hair.
Side Note: For those who do not know, this is a protein based conditioner.
[3] My original plan was to leave the conditioner on for 3-5 hours, but I got really sick so I just left it on overnight. In the morning, water from my hair was dripping down my face a bit. My hair feels really soft and manageable.

[4] I washed it out under cool water and detangled in the shower.
[5] I t-shirt dried for 15 minutes then added my leave-ins using the L.O.C Method. The products that were used are my hair mist, coconut oil and Garnier Fructis Leave-in Cream.
[6] I air dried using the scarf method then proceeded to blow dry using cool air because my hair is different lengths in the front.

Here is a difference of the way my hair looks in natural light versus flash? Is there a major difference?

P.S.: Does anyone know what I can do to make my hair in the front grow because no matter what do, it stays the same. It’s even causing my ponytails or any other protective styles look a mess in the take down process.

Renpure Originals: Coconut Cream Conditioner

So, I just bought this product from BI-LO for $4.79. I was just roaming around in the hair aisle and noticed this line that I never heard of before. It had a sale so I decided to buy it just to try it out.

One thing that I absolutely noticed about it is that it contains no sodium chloride, sulfates, dyes, harsh salts, parabens or gluten. Another good thing about it is that you do get your money worth because this product is filled to the top.

Since I haven’t heard of this product before, I checked out their website here: www.renpure.com They also have many other hair products that I also wish to try out as well.

The conditioner seems legit so I cannot wait to try it out but only when I clarify my hair because it’s been a while since I did.

Have you ever tried Renpure Originals products?

Product Review: Aunt Jackie's Moisturizing Conditioner

Price: $5 for 9 oz/260 mL
Purchased At: Dollar General
Promises: Enriched with Shea Butter and Olive Oil

Say goodbye to frizz unruly curls and lifeless coils. Define, shape and control curls, waves, coils and braid outs while adding moisture, shine and natural conditioning.

For amazing softness, deep conditioning and greater manageability use Aunt Jackie’s In Control as often as needed. Perfect as a restorative and reconstructive conditioning treatment or as a co-wash, In Control gives vibrancy to dehydrated, brittle, dull, dry-looking hair and softens for easier combing and styling. Curls and waves become more elongating and smoother coils, twists and braid-outs become touchably soft and more defined and heat-styled hair looks silky and frizz-free.

Ingredients: Aua, Glycerin, PPG-1 Trideceth-6, Dicetyldimonium Chloride, Butrospermim Parkii (Shea Butter) Fruit, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Polyquaternium-37, Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Lanolin Oil, Parfum (Fragrance), Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Cetyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Alcool, Propylene Glycol, Phenyl Trimethicone, Dimethicone PEG-8 Laurate, d-Limonene, Hexyl cinnamic aldehyde, Linalool, Amyl cinnamic aldehyde, Lilial, Panthenol, Soluble Collagen, Tocopherol, Benzyl alcohol, Citronellol, Hydroxycitronellal, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Equisetum Hiemale (Horsetail) Extract, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Cinnamic alcohol, 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one, Hydrolyzed uinoa, Cl 42090 (Blue 1)

My Assessment: I apply this conditioner with coconut oil to either dry or damp hair. I use the Laila Ali Conditioning Cap for an hour. My results were amazing! I had a lot of slip and my hair was really juicy. To be honest, since this conditioner has a thick consistency, I use coconut oil first on my hair so that the conditioner can slide on easily.

This is an amazing product but I feel as I’m paying a lot for a little amount of product. For 9 ounces, I’m paying $5 but for 14-15 ounces, I found out that it only cost about $8. There is a major different and I’m kind of on a budget since school is coming soon.

Other than that, I love this conditioner. It gives my hair what it needs; it makes my hair soft and manageable. I was about to get 4 uses so far and I’m already hooked.

Would I buy this product again? Yes, girl but I’ll either buy it online or at a beauty supply store to get it in a bigger size.

Product Review: L'Oreal Power Moisture Moisture Rush Mask

Directions: After using Power Moisture Shampoo, apply to wet hair and massage through ends.

Ingredients: Water, Hydroxypropyl Starch Phosphate, Quaternium 87, Behentrimonium Chloride, Stearyl Alcohol, Amodimethicone, Propylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance, Isopropyl Alcohol, Candelilla Cera (Candelila Wax), Trideceth 6, PEG/PPG/Polybutene Glycol 8/5/3 Glycerin, Hydroxypropyl Guar, Arginine, Glutamic Acid, Linalool, Chlorhexidine Dihydrochloride, Hexyl Cinnamal, Serine, Cetrimonium Chloride, Benzyl Salicylate, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Benzyl Alcohol, Limonene, Sodium Hyaluronate, Amyl Cinnamal, Citronellol, Alpha Isomethyl Ionone, Sodium Hydroxide, Green 3 (Cl 42053), Yellow 5 (Cl 19140), Blue 1 (Cl 42090), D158085/1

My Assessment: I apply this conditioner to damp hair after I washed it wash it with shampoo. This conditioner has a very sweet, floral smell which on some days can be overwhelming but I can manage. I use the Laila Ali Conditioning Cap to deep condition for an hour. After that hour is up, my hair is very soft, manageable, and my curls revert back. Some people say that the smell of the conditioner stays on their hair for a few days but it doesn’t with me. Once it has been rinsed out with cold water, the smell goes away especially with my leave-in conditioner, and oils.

Other than that, I really do like this conditioner, I only use it about twice a month because it does contain protein within this conditioner. I will defiantly recommend this conditioner to someone else but please use the conditioner for your hair health and not because I said so.
